    In mid 2005, Sheriff Don Horsley created the Gang Intelligence Unit (GIU) to assist local, state and federal law enforcement agencies combat the growing threat of criminal gangs to San Mateo County residents. GIU's primary responsibility is collecting and analyzing information then distributing intelligence regarding criminal gang members' activities within San Mateo County to law enforcement agencies. The GIU consists of members of the Sheriff's Office, Daly City Police Department, San Mateo Police Department and San Mateo County Probation. The GIU participates in a collaborative partnership with all of San Mateo County Law Enforcement agencies with emphasis in its support offered to the San Mateo County Police Chiefs and Sheriff Association Gang Task Force.

    This portion of the website is designed for the general public to provide educational assistance in the identification of gang members and to provide a central location to report criminal gang activity within San Mateo County. Please feel free to use and reproduce any of the information on the website.
